The Endocrinology and Metabolism Department of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital was established in August 1999. For over 20 years, based in Shenzhen and radiating to the Pearl River Delta, the discipline has continuously developed. In 2012, it was rated as a key clinical specialty in Guangdong Province, recognized as a brand discipline by the Shenzhen Medical Management Center in 2016, and recognized as a key medical specialty in Shenzhen in 2020.
There are 19 doctors and 19 nurses in the endocrinology department. 4 people hold senior professional titles, 8 people hold deputy senior professional titles, 15 people hold intermediate professional titles, 4 people hold doctoral degrees, and 12 people hold master's degrees. Endocrine specialist clinics and specialist clinics for diabetes, thyroid disease, weight loss, bone metabolic diseases, nursing and other diseases are open all year round, with 4-8 specialists and 1 specialist nurse visiting every day. There are 42 fixed beds in the ward, with an annual treatment capacity of over 2000 patients and an annual outpatient volume of more than 890000. It undertakes or guides the consultation and rescue work of critically ill and difficult cases in hospitals at all levels inside and outside the city.
The Endocrinology Department is equipped with dynamic blood glucose monitoring system, insulin pump treatment equipment, diabetes neuropathy tester, neurogenic bladder therapeutic apparatus, percutaneous oxygen partial pressure detector and other equipment, and is good at strengthening management of diabetes patients, insulin pump treatment and dynamic blood glucose monitoring.
The endocrinology department has established a specialized disease study group to develop specialized disease diagnosis and treatment. At present, 1. diabetes and its chronic complications group; 2. Metabolic weight loss study group; 3. Thyroid Disease Study Group; 4. Metabolic Osteopathy Group; 5. Pituitary and Adrenal Diseases Group; 6. Group of gonadal diseases; 7. Nursing group. Each academic group is composed of specialized leaders and young business backbones, and comprehensively develops in health education, medical services, scientific research and teaching related to specialized diseases.
The Endocrinology Department adheres to the medical concept of "prevention first and combination of prevention and treatment", and carries out health education on metabolic diseases for patients on a voluntary basis. At present, there are "diabetes Health Club", "Gout Friends Club", "Thyroid Friends Club", etc., and health lectures are held regularly. Activities such as free clinic consultation were held on the United Nations diabetes Day and World Osteoporosis Day, which were welcomed by the public.
With the joint efforts of department leaders and general medical staff, the endocrinology department has achieved comprehensive development in medical treatment, teaching, and scientific research. It has been successively awarded as the "Women's Civilization Post" in Guangdong Province, the "Women's Civilization Post" in Shenzhen City, the "Youth Civilization Unit" in Shenzhen City, an advanced collective at the hospital level, and an advanced party branch.
In the future, the Endocrinology Department will further develop and improve the basic and clinical research of diabetes and endocrine system diseases, provide quality medical services for patients, and strengthen health education to send health knowledge to the general public.
